LOTF

Today we had a discussion regarding the major themes in the novel: loss of innocence, the need for social order, and fear of the unknown. We will continue reading chapter 8 and begin responses to the following open-ended question:

HSPA

Yesterday we began covering the persuasive essay task that students will have to complete on the HSPA. Students received several handouts and took notes. I have posted the powerpoint and some sample tasks. Today we practiced writing more T-charts. Tomorrow we will take notes on the expository essay.

Jack

Today the students examined the transformation of Jack from choir boy to savage by sketching him based on descriptions in the novel.

Compare and contrast the images of Jack as he is described on pgs 19-20 and pgs 48-49. Provide a sketch of each image and an explanation as to the significance of the change in his appearance.
